Dr. Robert Suranyi, Research Leader – R&D at MGK
Dr. Robert A. Suranyi, is an entomologist and R&D Research Leader at MGK, a company founded in 1902, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Since its foundation, MGK has been a global leader in botanical insecticide research, development, and commercialization. Suranyi received his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from Szent István University, Gödöllő, Hungary, M.S., and Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of Minnesota. In 2003, Suranyi joined MGK where he has been a member of an interdisciplinary team conducting product development research in agricultural and urban pest management. Since 2009, he has been leading MGK’s discovery program for new botanical insecticides. He also works closely on the development and commercialization of botanical insecticides including trait improvement of source germplasm. He actively participates in global collaborative research programs with academic institutions, growers, and other stakeholders. Robert is still fondly remembered by potato growers of the Red River Valley of Minnesota and North Dakota as the “crazy Hungarian” 20 years after his Ph.D. research was completed.
