Sonja Bochart
Principal at Shepley Bulfinch
Sonja Bochart, a Principal based in the Phoenix office of Shepley Bulfinch, has over twenty years of experience as a health and wellness focused commercial interior designer and biophilic design consultant. Her portfolio includes higher-education, healthcare, cultural, and corporate designs, as well as projects meeting LEED, Living Building Challenge and WELL Building Standard certification.
Sonja specializes in collaborating with clients to create inspirational project designs that support both human and ecological health and well-being. In addition to leading Biophilic design workshops, her work spans from conceptual project development, programming, workshop facilitation, planning, and design oversight; to related project details including artwork, furniture, wayfinding, donor opportunities and signage. Sonja strives to expand the boundaries of conventional design practices, to help transform the spaces we live, work, play and heal. She attests that well-designed projects not only respect and support our communities and their surrounding environment; they can promote human physical and physiological health benefits and create places of wellness - for the mind, body and spirit.
It’s in our DNA to challenge convention.
For nearly 150 years, Shepley Bulfinch has countered the status quo to produce forward-thinking buildings and spaces that inspire living, learning, and healing. Today, our team of designers are shaping the future across several industries and disciplines, including healthcare, education, libraries, civic, and mixed use. We design beyond what’s expected.
Optimizing the patient experience -- To design tomorrow’s hospitals, you must look beyond the walls to understand how space and systems impact patient and staff journeys, as well as day-to-day operations. We employ a design approach that puts the patient at the center—one that inspires better outcomes and increases productivity and profitability for hospitals and healthcare providers.
